Southampton Chess League Committee Changes

After many good years of service, the Chair of the SCL Committee, Gillian Moore, will be retiring at their AGM this year.

This is an opportunity for chess players in Hampshire to join the committee and influence the development of league chess in the County. The duties of the committee members are not onerous with just the AGM to be attended and other business typically being conducted by email.

The committee anticipates that a number of management challenges will arise in the next couple of years and the insights and suggestions of any new committee members to address these will be welcomed. Committee roles can be decided once we know the make-up of the new committee.

If you wish to be considered for membership of the committee, in the first instance please email any committee member or

It’s your chess league. Please consider helping to keep it going!

Here is Gillian’s retirement notice.

“Dear Colleagues,

I have decided to step down as Chair of the Southampton Chess League at
our next AGM.

This decision is due to extra voluntary work I am now about to take up
outside of chess, plus other engrossing projects that I need to get on
with before it is too late, including books of my poetry to come in due

My hope is that the right person is found to take over the role, who will continue to work with you all as an excellent management team that we have been. I am grateful for having had the experience and honour of being Chair of the SCL these past years.

I will of course still be around as a player in the Southampton club and
the Hampshire county teams.

Kind regards,

The committee thanks Gillian for her care for league chess in the County for so many years.

Chris Priest
SCL Vice-Chairman.
