Portsmouth & District League AGM

The Portsmouth & District Chess League recently held their AGM and report that division 1 of the league will start in the week commencing 2nd October. Fareham have withdrawn their B-team from Division 2 and from the Cole Cup. Emsworth have also withdrawn their B-team from the Cole Cup. This give 15 teams in the League, and the committee has allocated 6 to Division 1, 4 to Divison 2 and 5 to Division 3. Teams will consist of 6 players in Div 1, and 5 players in Divs 2 & 3.

The Cole Cup has 8 teams this year. The draw sees Southampton v Cosham, Portsmouth B v Portsmouth A, Gosport v Chichester and Emsworth v Fareham.

All officers were re-elected, and Brian Cochran was elected as Individuakl Rapidplay Championship Controller. We have vacancies for Hampshire delegate and League Match Captain.

It was agreed to make a small reduction in League fees. League fees are now as follows:
Affiliation Fee £5.00 per club + £4.00 per League team
Cole Cup Entry fee £4.00 per team
Individual Championship entry fee £0.00 per entrant

Rule 14-d was amended to read as follows –

d. Before the time that it has been agreed that play shall commence, the opposing Match
Captains shall exchange playing lists showing the names of those taking part and the
order in which they will play. Additionally, the list should show the request of every
player to either finish on the night (F) or to play on (P).

Before the match commences, for those games where a player has chosen F (Finish on the Night) and their opponent has chosen P (Play-on), then the opponent, if their availability to Play-on is restricted, shall have the opportunity to change to F (Finish on the Night), before a move has been played by both players,. Other than this, once the playing lists have been exchanged, no alteration in the team order or players’ requests shall be allowed except that a substitute may take the place of an absent player.

An updated version of the Rules will be available shortly.

Robin Williams has informed me the the League website he produced for last sesaon will be available again for the coming season. Its name is http://portsmouthchessleague.uk. Many of our team captains used it last year, and it proved a popular and easy-to-use feature. Please contact Robin if you need help with the website.

Entries for the League Individual Championship should reach the controller, David Fowler, by 13th October.

Cole Cup results should continue to be reported to the Cole Cup Controller, Dave Cordner.

Yours sincerely,
John Wheeler
