The start of the Southampton Chess League season is now just over a week away and Hampshire also begin their Chiltern League campaign on 12th October with a home match against Berkshire which will be held at the Warren Centre by Micheldever station.

On Sunday 6th October a Hampshire junior congress will be held at Winchester College on Sunday 6th October, while the Hampshire Individual Championship will be held at the Lysses Hotel in Fareham from 1st to 3rd November.

Mike Cole a former secretary of both Fareham chess club and the Portsmouth chess league has recently died at the age of 81.
