SCL Update 19/06/2019

Individual Championship

The Southampton Individual tournament was an all play all competition featuring five players and was won by Fraser McLeod with three wins from his four games. Fraser’s only loss was to Winchester’s Lukasz Piecha for whom it represented his only win of the competition.

Mid Season break rejected.

At the AGM of the Southampton Chess League a proposal to have a mid-season break in December was defeated, and it was pointed out that there are very few fixtures scheduled between mid-December and mid-January.  However the fixtures secretary will try and take account of the preferences of individual clubs.

Board defaults

Another proposal that was defeated was an idea that a board defaulted on the night should be recorded as 0-0 if the player’s listed opponent is subsequently found to be ineligible for the team they represent.

A working party has been set up to look at lengthy proposals provided by Martin Buckley of Hamble chess club.
