Hampshire Teams in the Chiltern League

The Chiltern League pits Hampshire against our neighbouring Counties, we are always looking for players who would like to represent the County. Please contact one of our team captains if you would like to play.

Hampshire 7.5-10.5 Oxfordshire U150, 30th November 2019.
A cold day saw Hampshire host Oxfordshire in the Chiltern League Under
150 competition on Saturday 30th November. The match was played over 18 boards as Oxfordshire could not get a full team out and they defaulted
another board on the day.

The match was a game of two halves, the top 9 boards and the bottom 9 boards. On the top 9 boards where the average grades were about equal, Oxfordshire won 7.5-1.5, a really good result for them.

On the bottom 9 boards where the Hampshire players generally slightly out-graded the Oxfordshire players, Hampshire won 6-3 including a default. The final result was a 10.5-7.5 win for Oxfordshire.

The Hampshire over the board winners were Peter Dallas, Ewart Smith, Chris Priest, David Culliford, and Philip Ware. James Barnett won by default. All in all, a disappointing afternoon for Hampshire.

The next U150 match will be on Saturday 11th January at home to Buckinghamshire.

Buckinghamshire 6.5-5.5 Hampshire Open, 7th December 2019.
Another cold but clear day saw Hampshire drive to Prestwood to play Buckinghamshire in the Open competition. The match was originally due to be played over 14 boards but later reduced to 12 as two players from the Portsmouth area could not get transport to the match. We also defaulted a board (11) on the day due to a player being stuck in a traffic jam.

The match itself was fairly close effectively being lost by the defaulted board. This was a creditable performance given the average grading difference, 167 to 149 for Hampshire.

The Hampshire winners were Mark Cleary, making his Hampshire début, Tim Chapman and Chris Priest.

The next match will take place on Saturday 18th January, 2pm start, away
to Berkshire.

The Open team is struggling to get enough players for a full team of 16.
If a few more players from the U150 team were willing to play for the
Open team, especially from around the Portsmouth area so that transport
can be arranged, our captain would have an easier time of it.
