Southampton League New Season Started

The new Southampton Chess League season got underway with Winchester beating Andover in the Robertson Cup on board count after the teams finished level at 2.5-2.5. In the league games there were away wins for Fareham A and Salisbury B.

The new grading list has come out and Tony Corkett (Fareham) has remained graded at 214. Despite this his Fareham team were still relegated from Division 1 of the Southampton Chess League. Dominic Tunks formerly of Hamble has also maintained a grade of above 200 despite moving away from the area and only playing three games last season.

However the player in the Southampton Chess League with the highest grade is Marcus Harvey whose rating has gone up to 224 from 216, while his rapidplay remains at 237.

Matthew Sadler (Guildford) at 267 is the highest graded player in the country.
