National Team Rapidplay Competition

Chess Tournament

Teams of 4 players are invited to participate in this National Team Rapidplay competition from 20/20 Chess. This competition is a one-day rapid play event with 20 minutes for each player to make their moves in the game. The entry fee is £20 for a team of four students/under 18, or £10 for each non-student.

Hampshire Clubs are of course welcome to enter the tournament and our President, Chris Priest, is willing to act as coordinator for such a team. Players wishing to take part are invited to contact Chris who can be reached via our contact page.

There are qualifying tournaments being held in various cities to determine who qualifies for the 20/20 Grand Final. Previous tournaments have seen more than 500 players take part from a variety of chess clubs, schools and over fifty different universities.

The 2017/18 tournament schedule is –

  • 2020 North West Qualifier 28th October 2017, 8 teams won by Manchester University
  • 2020 Midlands Qualifier 22nd October 2017, 19 teams won by Warwick University
  • 2nd December Yorkshire Qualifier: Leeds University Michael Sadler Building Hall LG10, LS2 9DA
  • 3rd December London Qualifier: University College of Law Moorgate 2 Bunhill Row, London EC1Y 8HQ
  • 27th January London Qualifier: Royal Holloway University of London, Egham Hill, Egham Surrey TW20 0EX, Windsor Rooms TBC 2020

The Chess 2017 GRAND FINAL will be on 4th February 2018 at Birmingham University B15 2SA.
