Former police officer Alfred “Eddy” Edmonds has died at the age of 85. He was a strong chess player and was involved with the Woolston, Issoniams and Sarisbury chess clubs.

In the Southampton Chess League, Southampton A progressed to the next round of the Robertson Plate with a 3.5-1.5 win against Chandlers Ford A despite goof performances by the two Chandlers Ford bottom boards.

Basingstoke C became the first team to win a home league match in 2018 when they moved to the top of Division 5 when they beat Chandlers Ford C 3-1 despite Rose Saunders winning on board 4 for the visitors.
