Summary.
Division 1 consisted of six teams in a double round robin of ten rounds. Southampton A won the division with an impressive result of 9 wins and 1 draw. Passed Pawn A came a close second with 8 wins and 1 draw, and were only half a point down in total board score, with 34 to Southampton A’s 34.5. In third place were Eastleigh Rail A with 5 wins. Andover A came fourth with 3 wins and a draw, Salisbury A fifth with 2 wins, and University A came sixth with 1 win and 1 draw.
Team Summaries:
Southampton A won the division undefeated with 9 wins and 1 draw; with an amazing 19/20 match points. Strong performances were enjoyed by a number of players. Reigning Hampshire Champion 2010 (and 2009) Mike Yeo had the 3rd highest rating performance in the division of 204.5, 3rd highest points score of 7, and joint 1st to 2nd highest percentage score of 87.5%. Steve Kawuma had the 4th highest grading performance in the division of 196.9, and was joint 6th to 9th highest point scorer with 5.5 points. Tom Kazmierski had the 9th highest grading performance with 191.8, and the 3rd highest percentage score with 83.3%. Moses Kawuma had the 10th highest grading performance in the division with 185.2. Les Allen was joint 1st to 2nd highest percentage scorer with 87.5%.
Passed Pawn A came in close second, and several players had noteworthy performances. Dominic Tunks had the highest grading performance in the division with a very impressive 211 over 7 games, with joint 6th to 9th highest point score of 5.5 and 5th to 6th highest percentage score of 78.6%. Martin Buckley was the number one points scorer in the division, having amassed 8 points, (including no less than 7 wins, which is also the highest number of wins in the division), and was 4th highest percentage scorer with 80%. Mike Krawczuk had a strong performance including 6 wins, with the 9th highest grading performance in the division with 187.1, 4th highest points score with 6.5, and 8th highest percentage score with 72.2%, and 3rd highest performance above a player’s own grade with +22.1. John Wilkinson put in an extremely solid performance and was the only player in the league to go undefeated over 10 games, had the 2nd highest point score with 7.5, and the 7th highest percentage score with 75%.
In Eastleigh Rail A, M. Simons had a high performance grade of 227 over 3 games. Rick Smith had an excellent personal result with the number one grading performance above a player’s own grade, with +32 over 7 games. David Holmes had the 6th highest grading performance above a player’s grade, with +15.
Andover A had a strong performance from an ungraded player P. Hackman who had the 6th highest grading performance of 191.9, 5th highest points score with 6, and 9th highest percentage score with 66.7%. Stuart Knox put in a solid performance with the 8th highest grading performance in the division of 188.3.
Salisbury A had some strong individual performances. The star performance of the team was by Robert Lynn who finished with an outstanding grading performance of 205.6, which was the 2nd highest in the division, was joint 6th to 9th highest point scorer with 5.5, and 5th to 6th highest percentage scorer with 78.6%, and also 2nd highest grading performance above a player’s own grade with +30.6. Ieuan Ward put in a strong performance with the 5th highest grading performance in the division with 194.
Southampton University A finished in last place but had some respectable individual performances. D. Hart finished with a grading performance of 181 over 9 games, and A. Ganesan finished with a performance of 172 over 6 games.
