Sabina-Francesca Foisor has won the 2017 US Women’s Chess Championship. The previous 5 times champion of Romania demonstrated excellent preparation for the tournament and was a surprise winner following the very recent sad loss of her mother, IM Cristina Foisor died in January and never got to see her eldest daughter fulfil their mutual ambition.

Overcoming two losses in her first four games, Foisor scored a perfect 100% with the white pieces and in her last 7 games scored 5 wins and 2 draws. This fantastic scoring saw her score of 8/11 give her sole first place a full point ahead of last years US Champion IM Nazi Paikidze on 7/11 who lost her final game.
