Hampshire Win at Oxford

Chess Match

On Saturday 7th April Oxfordshire hosted the match with Hampshire at Rose Hill in Oxford. It was a foreboding grey day with the Sun trying to shine through the clouds. At least there wasn’t any rain.

It was close all through the match with only a point difference one way or the other until the end. Board 1 was the last game to finish which we won, giving us the match by 11-9 (+7, =8, -5). A good result given the average grading difference.

The Hampshire winners were Curtis Couch, Michael White, Chris Priest, Stephen LeFevre, Amanda Jones, Alan Willis and Keven Lamb. Well done to us all.

No date has been agreed yet for the postponed final Chiltern League match of the season against Oxfordshire.

The Hampshire Under 140 team is playing in the quarter-finals of the National County Championships. The first match is against Worcestershire on Saturday 19th May but no venue has been set yet. Get in touch with the match captain, Ashraf, if you would like to play in this match. The semi-finals are on the 9th June and the final on the 7th July.
