Hampshire Win at Berkshire

Chess Match

Saturday 24th February was a beautifully blue and sunny Winter’s day, if a little cold. The Hampshire U160 Chiltern League team was playing away to Berkshire at Farley Hill, a quiet village south of Reading.

Hampshire could only get 17 players for the match and Berkshire agreed to the reduction, but as one Hampshire person pulled out on the day we started one down for this default.

The Sun must have been shining on the Hampshire team as after a number of blunders on both sides, Hampshire were the runaway winners 11 – 6.

The Hampshire winners were Curtis Couch, Gillian Moore, Andrew Kirby, George Feltham, Ashraf Syed, Chris Priest and Barry Kocan. There were eight draws, one loss and one default.

Well done to us all!

The next match is on Saturday 17th March against Oxfordshire at home in Basingstoke. If you can play please let Ashraf know. Newcomers are always welcome.
