The Hampshire Chess Congress is our most prestigious event in the calendar, held annually it attracts a popular following from near and far. All players are welcome to this event which offers three tournaments catering for all standards of play. Cash prizes are awarded in all three tournaments for the first three players in each section. Additional prizes are awarded for grading performances and the Hampshire Individual Championship awards.

The three tournaments are the Open, Major and Minor. Play is Friday to Sunday over 6 rounds with a bye being available in any of the first 5 rounds. Typically a player may take a bye on Friday evening or at another time on Saturday or Sunday morning.

Open Tournament
The Open tournament is the strongest section, open to all players this is where the highest rated players will be playing. Prizes include:

The top 3 placed players receive a cash prize.
Under 175 ECF Grading, the highest placed player wins a cash prize.
The highest placed Hampshire player receives the Silver Rook Trophy.
The highest placed Hampshire under 175 grade wins the Len Walters Trophy.

Major Tournament
The Major is for players graded under 160 ECF (1900 elo). Prizes include:

The top 3 placed players receive a cash prize.
Under 140 ECF Grading, the highest player wins a cash prize.
The highest placed Hampshire player receives the Peter Marshall Cup.

Minor Tournament
The Minor is for players graded under 125 ECF (1637.5) Prizes include:

The top 3 placed players receive a cash prize.
The highest rated player under 100 ECF grading wins a cash prize.
The highest placed Hampshire player receives the Parsons Cup.

Ladies Prize
The highest scoring Hampshire lady receives the Gillian Moore Cup.

Best Game Prize
The player of the best game will win the John Dunleavy Memorial Best Game Prize
