British Chess Championship 2018

The British Chess Championships takes place from Friday 27th July to Sunday 5th August 29th and may now be entered online. The event is organised by the English Chess Federation and is a Tradewise Grand Prix Event. The tournament will take place at Hull City Hall, Queen Victoria Square, Carr Lane, Hull HU1 3RQ

BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP
Open only to exempted or qualified players Saturday 28th July to Sunday 5th August 9 rounds – rounds 1-8 (Saturday 28th July – Saturday 4th August) begin each day at 2.30pm; round 9 (Sunday 5th Aug) begins at 10.00am

BRITISH SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIPS – 7 rounds, starting 2.30pm daily
65+ (born 1953 or earlier) Sunday 29th July – Saturday 4th August
50+ (born 1968 or earlier) Sunday 29th July – Saturday 4th August

BRITISH JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS – 7 rounds
UNDER 16 (born 2002 or later) Sunday 29th July – Saturday 4th August 9.15am
UNDER 14 (2004 or later) Sunday 29th July – Saturday 4th August 9.15am
UNDER 12 (2006 or later) Sunday 29th July – Saturday 4th August 9.15am
UNDER 10 (2008 or later) Sunday 29th July – Saturday 4th August 9.15 am

UNDER 11 – 7 rounds
Friday 27th July AND Saturday 28th July – 9.15am, 1.00pm and 4.45pm

UNDER 9 – 6 rounds
Friday 27th July – 12.30pm 3.00pm and 5.30pm
Saturday 28th July – 9.15am, 11.45am and 2.30pm

UNDER 8 – 6 rounds
Sunday 29th July – 10am, 11.30am, 1.00pm, 2.30pm, 4pm and 5.30pm
Entrants to BOTH the U8 and U9 Championships before 21st July may deduct £10 from their total entry fee. Please note this means if you’ve entered BOTH events, not just one or the other …

MAJOR OPENOPEN TO ALL PLAYERS

9 rounds, rounds 1-8 (Saturday 28th July – Saturday 4th Aug) begin each day at 2.30pm;
round 9 (Sunday 5th August) begins at 10.00am

WEEKEND TOURNAMENTS – 5 rounds
Friday 27th July 7.00pm,
Saturday 28th July 9.15am and 2.30pm,
Sunday 29th July 9.15am and 2.30pm

Atkins Tournament – open to all players
Soanes Tournament – open to players under FIDE 1825 or if no FIDE Grade ECF below 150
Yates Tournament – open to players under ECF 120/1600 (January 2018 list)

Players may ask to play in a higher section if they so wish. Players may request a ½ point bye in any of first four rounds. Round One byes must be claimed on the entry form. Inform your section’s Arbiter of any bye to be taken in later rounds.

Under 1750 Tournament Monday 30th July – Friday 3rd August 2.30pm Open to players under FIDE 1750 or, if no FIDE rating, ECF below 140
Under 120 Tournament Monday 30th July – Friday 3rd August 9.15am Open to players under ECF 120/FIDE 1600 (January 2018 list)
Under 100 Tournament Monday 30th July – Friday 3rd August 2.30pm Open to players under ECF 100/FIDE 1450 (January 2018 list)

RAPIDPLAY – ONE SECTION,  9 rounds, FIDE-rated
Saturday 4th August 1.00pm, 1.45pm, 2.30pm, 3.15pm, 4.00pm, 4.45pm, 5.30pm, 6.15pm and 7.00pm August 2018 FIDE rapidplay ratings will be used for this event
