Southampton
University
I’ve mentioned the Southampton League web site before, (http://www.soton.ac.uk/~chess/league/) but by the time you read this the 1999/2000 results from the Southampton league should start to be included. Also worth checking out is the actual University chess club web site. This has lots of articles, which make fun reading.
If you know of any interesting chess sites, let me know.
Also, don’t forget that the Southampton league results and more are published in the Southern Evening Echo every Saturday.

at the Eastleigh Unity Club in
Southampton.
The format for this year has changed, with three sections.

Second £80
Under 150
First £90 and Cup for 1 year
Second £60
Under 110
First £60 and Trophy for 1 year
Second £40
By changing the format it is hoped to encourage people who have not played in the championship previously to enter.
Entry is £16 for the Open, £14 for the Under 150 and £12 for the Under 110. A late entry surcharge of £3 is due for entries received after 9th November and a £1.50 discount is available for BCF Direct Members.
You have to be a member of the Hampshire Chess Association to enter. If your club has not registered to the Hampshire Chess Association, individual membership can be obtained for £3.
The Eastleigh Unity Club is situated in Southampton Road, Eastleigh. It is literally 5 minutes walk from Eastleigh train station, making it ideal for players using the train services. Plenty of car parking is situated nearby.
This is an ideal opportunity for players to support a local tournament, one that has only just resumed in the last couple of years. It is hoped that if a good enough response is seen this year, the event will be able to expand in the future. So please support this tournament - I will be playing and I hope to see you there!
