County Correspondence: The results so far from the 2007 / 2008 competition are now available.

Southampton Robertson Plate: Salisbury A beat University A 5 - 0 in the final.

Southampton Div 4 Cup: Winchester College beat Eastleigh Railway D 3½ - ½ in the final, whilst Winchester C beat University C 3 - 1 in the Plate final.

Portsmouth Div 1: John Wheeler and John Wilkinson drew their game from the Cosham A - Gosport A match. Cosham A lead 3 - 2 with one game remaining.

S.Smith and B.Grant drew their game from the Chichester A - Cosham B match Chichester B won the match 3½ - 1½ with one game outstanding.

M.Buckley lost to A.Corkett from the Emsworth A - Fareham A match. Fareham A won 4½ - 1½

Portsmouth Div 2: R.McMaster lost to M.Buckley from the Portsmouth A - Emsworth B match. Portsmouth A won the match 4 - 2.

Portsmouth Div 3: Portsmouth B lost 2 - 4 against Chichester C.  Cosham C lost 2½ - 3½ against Fareham B

Chiltern League Jamboree: Hampshire finished 2nd to Oxfordshire in the jamboree. Hampshire winners were: B.Jenks, F.McLeod, W.McDougall, R.Ashmore, N.Azman, J.Symons, T.Chapman, J.Young, T.Elbourne and W.Curry.

Southampton Individual: Martin Buckley beat Fraser Mcleod in the final game. The title is shared, between Fraser and Martin. It is certainly worth noticing the fighting spirit of the competition, as there were no drawn games this year! The final game has been supplied by Martin, which I will publish in the near future.

Portsmouth Div 1: The two remaining games from the Cosham B - Gosport A match were drawn. Gosport A won the match 5 - 1.

Ken Retallack and Andrew Smith drew their game from the Emsworth A - Cosham A match, as did K.Eyles and A.Carter. The match stands at 2½ all.

Chichester A lead Cosham B 3 - 1.

Portsmouth Div 2: Rick Smith beat Gillian Moore from the Emsworth B match. Gosport lead 3 - 2.

Portsmouth Div 3: Chichester C beat Cosham C 5 - 1

Southampton Rob Cup: Ordnance Survey lost 0 -5 against Passed Pawn A in the first semi-final.

Southampton Rob Plate: Salisbury won by default against Ordnance Survey B. The details on the web-site are being checked, as I have a few incorrect links/details. I will try to resolve these this week.

Southampton Div 1: Matt Ludbrook beat John Wiseman from the Eastleigh Railway A - Southampton B match. Eastleigh won the match 5 - 0.

R.Pegg and H.Lwambula drew their game from the Ringwood A - Passed Pawn A match. Passed Pawn A won the match 3½ - 1½

Ringwood and Southampton B drew their match 2½ all.

Southampton B lost 1 - 4 against Eastleigh Railway A. This defeats sees Southampton B relegated to division two.

Southampton Div 2: Dave Holmes beat N.Azman from the Eastleigh Railway B - University B match. University B won the match 3 - 2. This concludes Division Two. Congratulations to Salisbury A for their fine performance in winning the division and commiserations to Winchester who are relegated (just).

Southampton Div 3: Salisbury B lost 1 - 4 against Eastleigh Railway C.

Dave Culliford beat S.Cartridge and Pat Pavey lost against T.Gray from the Eastleigh Railway C - Andover A match. Andover A won the match 3 - 2.

Salisbury B beat Ordnance Survey B 5 - 0. 

Eastleigh Railway C beat Ordnance Survey B 4 - 1.

B.Knight beat K.Sawers and B.Gale drew with D.Murchie from the Southampton C - Ordnance Survey B match. Ordnance Survey win the match 3½ - 1½.

P.Donaldson and K.Sawers drew their game, as did S.Redmill and T.Summers, both from the Salisbury B - Southampton C match. Salisbury B won the match 3½ - 1½.

These results see Eastleigh Railway C relegated to division four, despite a huge effort to overturn their poor start to the season. 

Southampton Individual: Roger Huxtable beat Paul Hurn and John Kooner. Gillian Moore beat Roger Huxtable and Paul Hurn.  

Martin Buckley beat Roger Huxtable, which leaves just the one game remaining. Fraser McLeod and Martin Buckley, which is to be played next week.

Cosham B lost 0 - 4 against Gosport W with two games outstanding.

Southampton B lost 2 - 3 against Passed Pawn A. With this win Passed Pawn A retain their division one championship.

Southampton Div 2: Ken Retallack and Bob Cleave drew their game from the Passed Pawn B - Winchester A match. Passed Pawn B won the match 3 - 2.

Southampton Div 3: Southampton C beat Winchester B 3 - 2.

County: Hampshire B lost 7½ - 8 against Dorset B in the County championship.

Southampton Div 2: Ordnance Survey A lost ½ - 4½ Salisbury A, who with this win are promoted to Division One.

P.Eales and A.Syed agreed a draw in their game from the Eastleigh Railway B - University B match. University B won the match 3 - 1 with one game outstanding.

Portsmouth Div 1: S.Dean drew with J.Coburn and S.D.LeFevre lost to T.Black in the played on games from the Cosham B - Fareham A match. Fareham A won the match 3½ - 2½

Chichester A continue to be Cosham A's bogey team, drawing their two played on games, thus drawing the match 3 all (the same result as their earlier match.)

Portsmouth Div 3: Fareham B beat Chichester C 5½ - ½ and Portsmouth B beat Cosham C 3½ - 2½. Fareham B are division three champions.

John Wilkinson beat Tim Weir from the Passed Pawn A - Ringwood A match. The match finished in a 2½ - 2½ draw.

Portsmouth Div 1: R.V.Puchades beat S.D.LeFevre and M.L.Bowater lost to P.Dallas in the Cosham A - Cosham B match. Cosham A won the match 4½ - 1½.

Gosport B lost 1½ - 4½ against Portsmouth A.

Southampton Div 1: Matt Ludbrook and Nick Missoulis drew their game from the Eastleigh Railway A - University A match. University A won the match 3½ - 1½

Southampton Div 2: Salisbury A beat University A 4 - 1.

Southampton Div 3: Winchester B lost 1 - 4 against Andover, who with this win the Division title.

Southampton Div 1: Southampton A lost 2 - 3 against Ringwood A.

Southampton Individual: Fraser McLeod beat John Kooner and Paul Hurn, to move onto 4 points from 4 games.

Chiltern League: Hampshire recorded their first win of the season by beating Berkshire by the narrowest of margins (10½ - 9½).
We have had two very close matches against Berkshire this season as they beat us by the same scoreline earlier in the season.
Congratulations in particular to the Hampshire winners Khaled Esmat, Matt Ludbrook, Phil Barber, Gillian Moore, Roy Ashmore, Jon Young and Simon Redmill, playing for the team for the first time. We were outgraded by an average of 7 points overall, while Khaled, Matt and Phil were all outgraded by around 20 points, so this was an excellent win (Fraser McLeod).

Chess as a Sport: I've mentioned in the past about the petition to classify Chess as a Sport, but if you have not seen this please have a look.

Portsmouth Div 1: A.Smith beat S.Dean in the game from the Cosham A - Cosham B match. Cosham A won the match.

Portsmouth Div 3:Portsmouth B lost 2 - 4 against Fareham B.

Cosham C beat Chichester C 5 - 1.

Southampton Div 1: University A beat Southampton B 5 - 0. 

Southampton A lost 1 -4 against Passed Pawn A.

Southampton Div 2: University B lost 1 - 4 against Ordnance Survey B.

Southampton Div 3: P.Donaldson lost to Bob Cleave in the Salisbury B - Winchester B match. Winchester B won the match 3½ - 2½

Salisbury B lead Southampton C 2½ - ½ with two adjournments.

Andover A beat Ordnance Survey V 4½ - ½

Southampton Div 4: Ringwood B lost 1 - 3 against Winchester C in a match which also counted for the Div 4 Cup.

University C lost 0 - 4 against College which means that Winchester College are Division 4 champions.

Gosport Chess Club: Patrick Waller has supplied a photo of Gosport Chess Club circa 1977. A fascinating photo including current Gosport players Phil Groth and Tony Elbourn. Fareham player Joe Coburn is also included.
