Wilf Pratten

Roger Paige has kindly supplied another ten Wilf Pratten games, which he has annotated. These include games against E.Bogoljubow, Dr J.Aiktken, P.Milner Barry and Michael Basman.

Arthur Brameld has supplied the following information on Wilf Pratten, as well as five games.

WH (Wilf) Pratten was one of the strongest chess players ever produced by Hampshire. He was British Boys champion in the early part of the 20th Century and, if he had not had to work to earn a living, it is contended that he could have gone on to much greater things in chess, both nationally and internationally. Here are just a few of his games, including the "English Immortal" against Maczynski at Portsmouth 1948. ( Wilfred Heny (this might have been a typo for Henry ??) Pratten, born 12/8/1906 (Swindon), died 10/7/1985 (Fareham) aged 78)

Fraser McLeod

Fraser manages to beat an IM, at the Basingstoke Congress in 2000. Fraser mentions that Nigel Povah was just coming back to Chess, but that's just modesty. A win's a win!

John Jones

Games 1 to 5

Games 6 to 10

Games 11 to 15

Game 16

16 games from John Jones. John currently plays for Gosport in the Portsmouth League. These days he does not play that much, as Chess takes a back seat to his Bridge activities. In the past John has played board one for the Hampshire County Team and was graded over 200 in the early 1970's. A lot of John's games have been lost, but he has supplied 16 of his games for your enjoyment the majority of them being under 30 moves.
