1976 - 1977  County Matches Analysis

 

Two wins, a draw and two losses were how the A team fared this year. They lost to the higher rated Devon and Dorset teams, drew with a Somerset team of about the same level and beat the weaker Cornwall and Wiltshire teams. The B team beat Dorset and Somerset but lost heavily to a strong Devon team.

 

An interesting player was playing for Devon a certain P.Waters. He seems to have been a very strong junior, who played for Devon for a few years, but then stopped playing. Looking back in the old Westward HO magasines, he was definitely a star for the future but just stopped playing soon after this season. Maybe some of the Devon players know what happened to him? I also noticed ex Hampshire player Gerald Bennett playing for Dorset this season. 

 

Individually A.Cullinane had the best performance (as he did in 1977 / 1978) with S.Chivers, Martin Newbury D.Beer, Len Walters, A.Barton and Stuart Dean also performing well.  There was five performances over 200 this season, highlighted in Red.
