Hampshire Correspondence

The Hampshire Correspondence team is run by Fraser McLeod     corres@hampshirechess.co.uk

2/7/10 Fraser writes:

For those still playing their county correspondence chess game please note that the end date is 31 July.

A result should be agreed by then or you should submit your adjudication claim to me.

If your game is already finished and not reported then please tell me the result immediately.

The team has fared poorly this season (details below) and we are currently 10th equal out of 12 teams in the top division:

I need to submit our team for next season by 11 September.

I already know of one person dropping out (Hubert Au). If anyone else wants to discontinue playing then please let me know as soon as possible.

If you know of anyone else who would like to play then please let me know.

The organiser has asked me the following questions (please tell me your views, if any, (my comments in brackets):

  1. How many boards overall? (I am happy with 22)
  2. How many boards should be compulsory email play? (Hampshire has a few players I know of who cannot or do not want to play by email (e.g. Arthur Brameld, John Wheeler, John Wilkinson).
Could others in the 'N' half of the team let me know if they are happy to play by email please? I would suggest a gradual shift to email, say a 14 / 8 split for next season.)
  3. There is also the opportunity to the use the ICCF server for playing games.
The cost of doing so is covered by the fees for grading the games that the ECF is paying. I was wondering what your thoughts were as to the best way to take this forward. We could conduct a pilot test, with a small number of specific "E" boards chosen and designated to be conducted this way. Or we could do something more radical. Thoughts please! (I have no experience of using this server. I guess it stores the moves played, calculates the time taken and displays the position. I guess it is a useful facility if used by the ICCF but do we want to require some players to use it?)”

the board numbers (E1, E2 etc) indicate that play must be by email, whereas, for N1, N2 etc, the default is to play by post.
