Congratulations to the Hampshire team on coming 1st in the Chiltern jamboree on Saturday.
As you can see from the above results, we scored well in the Open section (3/4), the U-150 section (3/4) and an awesome (5/4) in the U-100 section, aided by Joe French standing in for a missing player from one of the other counties but scoring for Hampshire! Oxford were 2nd with 10; Berkshire and Bucks scored 6½ each. [An independent stand-in scored the "missing" ½]

Thanks to all who played and to those who helped in organising and setting up (notably John Wheeler, Brian Grant, Sam Murphy and me!)

Hampshire beat Berkshire 11-9 in the Chiltern U-180 at the weekend in an exciting match. At one point we were about 6 points ahead and appeared to be cruising, but Berkshire fought back strongly and looked to be winning all the remaining games, which would have resulted in a draw (we drew both our matches last season against Berkshire so I thought this was our destiny). Last to finish, however, was Ian van Delft who had miraculously come back from a piece down to queen a pawn and win his game, all with a few minutes left on his clock and a crowd watching him - well done!
