Season 2004 / 2005 Chiltern League Analysis

Team Information

Player Performance

This is a personal view completed by me (Graham Stuart) and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Hampshire Chess Association. Please feel free to supply your own thoughts / comments on the season.

Again, as per the West of England Analysis, I would like to say is a thank you to Chris Priest for doing the data analysis this year. I have not been able to use everything, so drop me or Chris a note if you want all of the information. News@HampshireChess.co.uk

The analysis is for the Under 180 and Under 125 teams, and as it is based on the number of points scored, the players that played in both teams (if they scored well) will migrate to the top of the list. Both teams did very well this season, with the Under 180 team sharing first place with Bucks (4 wins and 2 losses) and the Under 125 team also sharing first place but with Berks (4 wins and 2 losses).

Hampshire also hosted and won the Jamboree, for which team captain Fraser McLeod had players clambering to play in. I think the Under 180 team deserve particular praise, as the other teams certainly saw us as the favourites, and put out impressive teams against us.

Performance wise, a number of players stand out, but none more than Andrew Mayer, who played and won 7 games, against opposition which was only slightly lower graded than himself. Gillian Moore and John Wiseman both played over 10 games managing to score more than 50% as well. Steve Le Fevre made an excellent return to chess, and scored 75% and outperformed his grade by 12 points as well.

Looking at the U180 players, Peter Roberson had an excellent season, as well as representing England in junior events he scored 3 wins and a draw from his 4 games, with a grading performance over 210. Peter won't be eligible for the Chiltern League next season, but I am sure that Dominic Tunks will be asking if he can play for the West of England County team!

Under 180 Captain Fraser McLeod has an excellent season, especially coupled with his captaincy duties. Harold Shelley, Mike Krawczuk, Roy Ashmore, Matthew Ludbrook, David Drew and Stuart Dean also had an excellent season.

So onto next year, hopefully captains Fraser McLeod and Brian Grant will again continue their good work and we are just as successful. You will notice there are a couple of players graded over 180 in the Player Performance table, these are the players that played in the Jamboree game.

If you have any games from the Chiltern League I would be pleased to publish them, send to me at News@HampshireChess.co.uk
