Hampshire B v Dorset B - 4 October 2002

Hampshire managed to have a stronger side than their opponents for the first time in a number of years. This was probably due to the match only being the B team and being playing at home. Players in the B team now have to be graded under 150 and Hampshire managed to have an average grade of 133.3 against Dorset's 127.8. This season, Hampshire are playing their B team matches over 12 boards.

The top 5 boards were all drawn, some more hard fought than others (mine was one of the games that did not last that many moves). Peter Roberson on top board missed the win of a piece, but was still pushing for a win before the game was eventually drawn. Peter is a great hope for the future, being the 7th highest graded under 14 player in the country. Lets hope he plays for Hampshire for a long time. Peter was also probably 25 years younger than any of the other players in the match!

Hampshire picked up wins on board 6 and 7 with Richard Perrin and David Kinsler winning respectively. Both these players are currently graded under 140, but have been much higher in the past. Certainly two tough opponents to meet this low down the board order. Steve LeFevre and Jon Young were the other Hampshire winners, whilst Peter Marshall and Bob Cleave were the only losers on the day.

Lets hope the rest of the season continues in this fashion.
